At Innotrans 2018, International Trade Fair for Transport Technology, Elkem Silicones' team will present its latest silicone innovations for the railway industry.

This will be the opportunity to demonstrate how silicone materials meet the transportation market challenges:

  • Railway performance: lightweight and thermal management
  • Long-term durability: high elasticity resilient to mechanical fatigue, resistance to high and low temperature, low compression set, …
  • Safety: Compliance to EN45 545 requirements, fire resistance combined with non-toxic smokes.

Elkem Silicones offers a wide range of products for railway applications: rubber, foams, gels and thermally conductive materials.

Fire resistant rubber for profiles, gangways and bellows:

To meet the requirements of new EN45 545 regulation, Elkem Silicones developed the Bluesil® FR 8700 series, a new range of HCR silicone rubber products specifically designed for transportation with high levels of fire resistance and low smoke emissions. Bluesil® FR 8700 is available in three grades of hardness to implement in profiles (doors, windows, walls) and panels. 

Rubber for safety cables:

Bluesil® FRC 8470 U is the ideal material for the insulation of fire-resistant safety cables. It reduces smoke and effluent gases to save human lives and facilitate the work of rescue teams; enables security systems to function during fires, by ensuring the integrity of electrical cables; prevents silicone-insulated sheaths from burning and benefits from enhanced fire protection solutions .

Potting and encapsulation for electronic protection:

For power electronics; like IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor), Elkem Silicones developed special grade of silicone gel, Bluesil® ESA Grade, with increased temperature performance expected for higher power density. This product line was developed specifically to sustain high service temperature conditions ranging>200°C during 9000 hours.

 Foam for interior insulation and seating:

Bluesil®RT silicone foam is a spongy material that provides performance benefits of standard silicones but with added flexibility, lightweight and fire resistance. Elkem Silicones' developments in foams are motivated by customer requests.
