CHINAPLAS 2017: Bluestar Silicones launches new products for cable harness solutions of new energy vehicles.
Bluestar Silicones will present a new serie of products: MF 8360 U HT, MF 8370 U HT, MF 8160 U, MF 8170 U and MF 8270 U at the 31th International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries (CHINAPLAS 2017). These products are designed for applications in automotive high-voltage cables, and comply with LV112, LV216, ISO6722 and QC/T1037 standards.

BLUESIL® MF 8360 U HT, MF 8370 U HT, MF 8160 U, MF 8170 U and MF 8270 U
New energy vehicles (NEVs) are coming into a development climax with the increasing concerns on environment and energy. Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are provided with more high-voltage components such as power battery, high voltage distribution box, drive motor and motor controller, thus setting up new requirements for automotive cables. Firstly, as these cables work in front engine and chassis locations with high temperature and small space, cables need to have flexibility, small turning radius and excellent resistance to high and low temperatures. Secondly, the vehicles work under complex road conditions, cables must have good wear resistance and high mechanical strength. In addition, cables are required to offer short-term overload capacity to withstand instantaneous high current in case of fluctuations in vehicle speed, especially under the conditions like climbing at full load.
Crosslinked polyolefins and thermoplastic elastomers are now available for insulation of automotive power cables. With resistance to high temperature of up to 150℃, crosslinked polyolefins is relatively hard and difficult to be installed within small space of vehicle body. Such materials require complicated process of irradiation crosslinking which is not suitable for power cables with a large cross-section. With resistance to high temperature of not more than 125℃, thermoplastic elastomers has lower heat-resistance rating for power cables, leading to a risk of cracking after long-term use.
In response to these new challenges, Bluestar Silicones will present a range of new products for cables of new energy vehicles -BLUESIL® MF 8360 U HT, MF 8370 U HT, MF 8160 U, MF 8170 U and MF 8270 U at the CHINAPLAS 2017. These products are suitable for traditional hot air and salt bath vulcanization, as well as steam vulcanization, with the selection of vulcanization agent depending on specific process.
These products have the following advantages: excellent mechanical strength and electrical properties, resistance to temperature of up to 180℃ or 200℃; soft and very flexible at low temperature, excellent insulation performance; resistant to fire, aging and chemicals; and particularly its good flexibility resulting in easy installation even in a small space under the hood. These advantages made them ideal for insulation of battery cables, ignition wires and high voltage cables.
BLUESIL® MF 8360 U HT and MF 8370 U HT are rated to comply with LV112 Class E, and tested for resistance to long-term aging of 3,000 hours at 180℃, with tear strength > 15 N/mm.
BLUESIL® MF 8160 U, MF 8170 U and MF 8270 U are rated to comply with LV 112 Class F and ISO 6722 Class F, and have tear strength (ISO 34-1b) >10N/mm and resistance to heat aging of 3,000 hours at 200℃.
In addition to HCR solutions for cables of new energy vehicles, Bluestar Silicones will present a range of silicone rubbers for automotive applications such as exhaust pipe lifting lug, shock absorption, cylinder liner sealing, turbocharger tube and spark plug boot. Moreover, Bluestar Silicones also will present silicone rubbers for kitchenware that comply with food contact regulations.
Mix & Fix® Center
These HCR products are manufactured in MIX & FIX® Center of Bluestar Silicones.
