When Elkem Silicones Xinghuo was established in 1968, the plant started producing high-energy rocket fuel for national defense, which provided fuel for the launch of China's all generation rockets and Shenzhou series spacecraft. After joining China National BlueStar (Group) Co, Ltd in 1996, Xinghuo has been concentrating on the silicones manufacturing and technology development. In 2007, BlueStar acquired France Rhodia Silicones international business. Afterwards, the advanced production technology of Rhodia started to transfer to Xinghuo and in 2009 Xinghuo built the new monomer production unit and downstream production. In 2015 Bluestar Silicones International (former Rhodia Silicones) joined Elkem, a silicon-based company headquartered in Oslo Norway, acquired by Bluestar in 2011, and in 2017 the Xinghuo formally joined Elkem as well. With the move, Elkem has become a worldwide integrated silicones provider.
