All surfaces must be clean and dry, and free from any dust, grease or any traces of contaminants which may affect adhesion.
To degrease, wipe with a pad soaked in solvent then with a clean cloth. Dust should be removed using oil-free compressed air.
- Glass and all glazing materials: degrease with alcohol or methylethyl ketone.
- Aluminium, light alloys, stainless steel: same procedure.
- Other metals: lightly abrade the surface then degrease.
- Wood, lightly abrade the surface then remove dust.
- Plastics: degrease using an agent recommended by the supplier.
- Concrete and other alkaline surfaces: brush and dust.
BLUESIL SLT NOVART S does not require a primer on most common substrates, except in the case of immersion, mainly with porous substrates. Please consult us for more information.
In order to improve adhesion on PMMA (sanitary acrylic material), primer BLUESIL PRIM PM 820 can be used.
They must consider the joint movement in addition to local regulations. In order to allow the sealant to operate under the best possible conditions, the minimum cross-section of the seal should be 5 x 5 mm: for seals wider than 12 mm, the thickness will generally be determined as being half this width.
Applying the sealant:
Once a seal back-up material has been put in place (closed-cell polyethylene foam with surface skin or open cell polyurethane foam), the sealant should be applied ensuring that the seal is completely filled. Tool the seal to ensure good contact between the sealant and the bonding surfaces. This should be carried out using a spatula before the surface skin is formed.
Areas soiled with fresh sealant may be cleaned with a dry pad or a pad soaked in a solvent (compatible with the substrate). Any cured sealant can be removed by scraping (e.g. using a razor blade), or by using a special silicone remover product like BLUESIL SILICONE REMOVER.

BLUESIL SLT NOVART S WHITE
BLUESIL SLT NOVART S is a one component, neutral (alcoxy) and fast curing, ready-to-use silicone elastomer suitable for weather-sealing and bonding seals in construction applications, which is protected by a fungicide.
It crosslinks at room temperature to give a flexible seal of low modulus.
BLUESIL SLT NOVART S is available in the following colors:
1 Part RTV Alcoxy
BLUESIL SLT NOVART S combines the advantages of primerless adhesion and neutrality and can be used on most material used in sanitary areas, such as: glass, layered glass, coated glass and all other glazed surfaces, ceramic tiles, anodised and heat lacquered aluminium, steel, stainless steel, rigid PVC, concrete, marble and other porous substrates. Its smooth, glossy appearance compliments glazed sanitary ware and ceramic tiles. It is also compatible with butyl gaskets of insulating glazing.
BLUESIL SLT NOVART S does not generally cause staining of surfaces. Nevertheless, specific testing is required in the instance of sensitive surfaces, especially porous ones (marble, stone, etc.).
BLUESIL SLT NOVART S can withstand movement of 25% in constant service throughout a wide temperature range.
Once cured, BLUESIL SLT NOVART S offers good resistance to concentrated weak acids as well as diluted strong acids and alkali. It also shows good resistance to oxidative agents like bleach, and to alcohols. Good resistance to most common cleaning products is thus anticipated. However, hydrocarbons induce swelling of the sealant. Therefore, contact with hydrocarbons, even short term, should be prohibited.
Once cured, BLUESIL SLT NOVART S is highly resistant and is not affected by exposure to sunlight, rain, snow and ozone and maintains this resistance over many years. The cured sealant is also resistant to fungal growth in hot humid environments such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Additionally, it differentiates from competitor neutral sanitary sealants by its reduced yellowing.
BLUESIL SLT NOVART S is suitable for weather-sealing and bonding seals for construction and glazing applications, and especially where a protection against degradation and mould is desired. Main applications are:
- Sealing joints in sanitary applications like bath tubs, showers, washbasins, sinks, kitchen worktops, urinals…
- Connection joints of plumbing fixtures and ceramic tiles.
- Cold rooms.
- Perimeter sealing of wooden, aluminium and PVCu window and door frames.
- Glazing applications.
- Expansion joints for facade panels, Curtain wall joint.
- Ventilation ducts and piping passages.
- Boat, caravan and camping-car maintenance.
- Bonding of roof tiles.
