1. Mixing the two components
The components A and B are mixed by weight in the above indicated ratio. In case of hand mixing, degas the mix under vacuum 3-5 kPa before processing the product.
Use preferably static mixing equipment to prevent bubbles and avoids formation.
Note: Release the vacuum once or twice accelerates the degassing. It is recommended to use a container with a high diameter / height ratio.
After use, packaging must be tightly closed and protected against moisture contamination to preserve its properties.
It is also possible to use a special mixing and dispensing machine for the two silicone components. Further information is available upon request.
2. Polymerization - Curing
BLUESIL ESA 7231 A&B starts curing even in confined spaces as soon as it is mixed. When exposed to temperature, cure rate is increased and the material should be completely crosslinked after a few minutes at relatively high temperature.
For example, for a 1mm thick layer of BLUESIL ESA 7231 A&B:
Curing time as a function of the temperature (approx.) :
- 5 to 8 minutes at 90°C
- 2 minutes at 110°C
- 1 minute at 130°C
Adhesion to substrate will depend upon the curing conditions. A preliminary test is recommended to determine optimum cure conditions, and a temperature ramp-up in industrial ovens is always preferred to avoid bubbles and ensure best adhesion.
Additional post-cure is needed for food compliance.
Contact with certain materials can inhibit the crosslinking. See list below:
- Natural rubbers vulcanized with Sulphur.
- RTV 2 silicone elastomers catalyzed with metal salts, e.g. tin-compounds.
- PVC stabilized with tin salts and additives.
- Epoxy resins catalyzed with amines.
In case of doubts, it is recommended to test the substrate by applying a small quantity of the mixed silicone on a restricted area.

BLUESIL ESA 7231 A&B is a liquid two-component, polyaddition heat curing silicone elastomer.
After polymerization BLUESIL ESA 7231 A&B forms a flexible adhesive and resistant material to thermal, climatic and environmental attack.
