Space saving and miniaturization are leading to an increase in power density for power electronics devices (IGBT – Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor). These devices, and all their components including potting materials which are protecting the electronics components, will have to sustain higher service temperature conditions. These electronic components and their potting materials will operate at temperatures of up to 200°C (known in the electronics industry as Maximum Service Temperature). The long-term ageing test for sustained performance in these conditions has been set at 5000 hours and is becoming a standard. Silicones for Electronics Potting are therefore required to prove their performance and reliability in these extreme conditions over a long period of time.
